Hello,

I am going to use this thread as a journal to track the progress of my tank. I realise that this is a Dutch forum so my apologies to those who have troubles with the English.

Post 1. - Current progress

I had a Dernelle 30L Nano tank that I was going to use. However it cracked... 🙁 So I have been on the lookout for a new tank and found this one: http://www.aquatlantis.com/index.php?id ... l=registos
So an extra 10L of water... perfect 🙂

I bought it for a great deal. However.. I will not use the LED light, filter and heater... that will all go to the marktplaats.

I have also bought the following products today.
1.Ebi gold Aquarium substrate
2. EI fertilisers (KNO3, KH2NO4, MGSO4 and CSM+B)

I have also built my own DIY LED light. 21W with 7 high power LEDs (Blue, warm white2300k and cool white7000K)

I have a CO2 system but I want to use an inline reactor which I still need to get.

SO what do I still need to get before I can fill it up.
Filter: Eheim 2213 440LPH
Reactor: max min reactor
Heater: eheim jager 50w or fluval E50... this is a big dilemma I cant choose between the two.
Plants: HC, monte carlom blyxia, anubias mini

Finally, can someone let me know how I can add photos I would be grateful.

Hee, Welcome,

Foto's can be uploaded in several ways. The easiest one is to use a random free uploader online as Imageshack or so, just google it and you will be allright. The photo has to be on the internet before it can be used here. When you have a URL you can put it in a post with the tags

Nice too see someone here who is not from the Netherlands, hope you are able to read some dutch, otherwise you can only follow your own thread haha.

Good luck

thats an nice bundle of light for such a small tank, your plants will love it 😀
what kind of leds did u use?

i use photo bucket to upload photo's ( http://photobucket.com )

looking forward to see your tank when started.

Yes it is indeed a bundle of light.... need to be careful that i dont put it close to a window that looks out on the street as it could cause some car accidents because of blind drivers!! 😛

I am using 3w bridgelux LED with 90 and 60 degree lenses. Currently i am using 4 cool white 1 blue and 2 warm white LED. If i have algae problems i can change a cool white for a blue i think and then it will get less intense.

I will have to sign up for one of these photo sites then. Will look into it this weekend.

Isn't an Eheim2213 a bit excessive for a 40l tank? Has anyone tried this before? I know you can easily use them for tanks upto 100l...I use 2 on my 180l tank, but I have a friend that uses only one on my type of tank...

For tanks up to 250L so yes, a little excessive, however can you speak of excessive when it comes to filtering? You can speak of excessive when it comes to flow though....
Is it possible with this filter to throttle the flow?

I dont expect to have a problem. As long as there is not such a strong current created so that the substrate and plants are blown out of place.

There are many debates about flow, of which I am a believer that a strong flow is beneficial for helping keep algae at bay as well as spreading the co2 and nutrients over the tank rapidly helping plantgrowth and fostering the growth of beneficial bacteria in the system.

also, i will have a co2 reactor attached to the outflow of the filter and this will somewhat lessen the flow. Another option that I am still not yet decided upon is to use a glass lily pipe that spreads the flow into the tank.

You also need to take into account that with canister filters you will never get their stated output. this is because when the filter is full of media this slows the output of the filter, it is also affected by how high the filter needs to pump the water up to the tank.

So with all this in mind i expect to only get 340LPH . I will measure it, it will be quite interesting to see how all teh differnt flows are after I add all the above equipment.

Hi All, UPDATE TIME!!

As for the flow. I have measured the flow with the piping, reactor and filter material. This is a 400LPH filter and I measured the working output of the canister into the tank at 258LPH. This means that I have a turnover rate of 6.45 times for the water in my 40L aquarium.

This weekend I will continue to plant and hopefully the wood will sink on its own.

Im not sure if that is enough flow yet...

Good luck with the Fissidens Fontanus!

Update time 🙂

planted and waiting for teh tank to cycle before I add any fauna.
Last week did around 50-25% water changes a day. this week will do the same every second day. no pearling yet...
